My one good kidney is at 54 per cent now my doctor is recommending statins as my heart can be affected. My kidney has mainly been a problem when I had a hard to clear infection started with blood in urine, then went milky like tea, not so bad now but is still cloudy and slight smell,do not really know if statins are a good idea.Forgive punctuation I just can't do it

Is this doctor your kidney specialist? I would talk to the nephrologist if this isn't them. If this is your kidney specialist, I would follow their recommendations. I personally take a low dose statin. I would also ask if it's okay to drink lots of water. 💜

It's understandable to be concerned about starting a new medication like statins, especially with existing kidney issues. Here are some key points from my knowledge base that might help:

- Statins and Myeloma: Statins, such as Lipitor (atorvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin), and Zocor (simvastatin), are used to treat high cholesterol. Some studies suggest that statins may lead to a lower risk of being diagnosed with myeloma and may result in less severe disease and a better prognosis for those with multiple myeloma.

- Kidney Function: It's crucial to monitor kidney function closely when taking any new medication, including statins. People with multiple myeloma and kidney damage should remain hydrated by drinking two to three liters of water per day.

- Infections and Kidney Health: Infections can exacerbate kidney problems. Symptoms like cloudy urine and a slight smell could indicate an ongoing infection, which should be discussed with your healthcare provider.

- Consult Your Doctor: Always talk to your doctor before starting any new medication, especially with existing kidney issues. They can provide personalized advice based on your overall health and medical history.

Your doctor can help weigh the benefits and risks of starting statins in your specific situation.
