What Could Cause Lower Than 60 GFR For The Last Few Blood Tests?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I drink a lot of water. My glucose goes up and down but within tests range. Could too much sugar cause low numbers I eat fish, veggies, nuts, and high fiber cereal and bread. My oncologist doesn't say anything. Is this out of the realm of oncology and for my GP instead?

Hello Kathryn, My GFR is sometimes 60 and sometimes 56. Both my oncologist and my kidney specialist have not been overly concerned at this point but keep an eye on the numbers. It is important to drink lots of water and only use Tylenol for pain as Larry pointed out. Fortunately my oncologist is there to guide me each month and reassure me that my numbers are doing well. Breath in - breath out. 👨‍✈️

If you take Ibuprofen or similar, they clear through the kidneys and cause problems. Only use Tylenol for pain. Always check how any medication clears the body and avoid those that clear through the kidneys.

My eGFR fluctuates, usually in the mid to high 50's, occasionally going to 60. My doctors never say anything about it. I think they take everything into consideration, like your creatinine, albumin, etc...to make a determination. I'd definitely ask your doctors what they think.🕊️🫶

Mobic, generic meloxicam. A high powered Advil. Hard on the kidneys. I’ve been on it for 30 years. A Mds first line arthritis med. Tylenol is a joke. I hate narcotics. Nothing else seems to work. I always drink jugs of water daily. I always eat with it too.

HA, I just had a thought. How would AI answer my question? I could keep AI busy if I wanted to torture him/it/..
