GFR Rate
On the Comprehensive Metabolic Panel blood test my GFR rate says over 60. Is there another test out there that is more specific? Over 60 could be anywhere from 61 to 89. I am drinking alot of water and eating a healthy diet. Don't want to progress to CKD. Has anyone had to stop taking Revlimid because it harmed their kidneys?
Your GFR is also age dependent, with it lowering as you age, even for people with no problems. That being said, anything over 60 at the older age a multiple myeloma patient is, is considered normal. 45-59 is mild to moderate kidney disease. 30-44 is moderate to severe. 15-29 is severe. Below 15 is kidney failure. Exercise and food choices also affect kidney health. Stay away from processed foods, since those typically are high in salt. Limit your intake of salt, and intake of high protein. Keep a healthy weight. Drink lots of water, especially after treatment to flush the kidneys. If your GFR drops below 50, your doctor will reduce the Revlimid dosage, typically to 10mg, maybe lower.
My question is why wait to treat until you are under 60 rather than when number is still above 60 but obviously steadily declining toward it? Why not take steps when you are over 60 rather than waiting to fall below it and already likely to have mild to moderate kidney disease? Why not try to prevent rather than wait and then treat another comorbidity?????
Wendym, That is usually the way it is presented on he GFR. You are in a normal rate. If it drops below 60 hey get concerned and the test does show more specific numbers such as 51. There are other tests that they watch too, such as your Creatinine. Keep flushing out your kidneys with lots of water and you should be fine. I havenโt heard of Revlimid being a big danger to the kidneys but it is always good as any of these drugs kill off Myeloma Cells to flush them out and not let them clog up your kidneys. Have a good day! Love, Marcia ๐ผ๐ธ๐ป
I can't answer your question. However I am taking Revelimad three days a week because I am in the controlled treatment stage. I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma cancer in April 2020 and went through 5 months of treatment taking Revelimad and another Rx (, can't remember what it was) but I was on 21days and off 7 days. After 5 months we took my M spike number from 3.75 to 0.28. I then went into the controlled treatment stage. We did have an issue with a RASH and stopped treatment until the RASH was cleared up. We then went on just the Revelimad and a steroid. We have eliminated the steroid and I am only taking the Revelimad. No RASH and my last four blood draws have been not detected which Dr Crane is very happy about. My treatment is working.
Wow...That is awesome. I am going to see how I can get this information. Pretty important.
