My paraprotien figures are continuing to rise.Hopefully they will start to come down now i hsve started a course of lanidomide.the only thing worrying me at the moment is a continuous pain in my right side and lower back. The best way to describe it is the same as a severe stitch.I have tried all manner of pain killers, nothing seems to work it just constantly aches.

I agree with Mark. Talk to your doctor about any new pain.

Allan, back pain is the bane of MM. Is it a pinched nerve? Is it muscular? Is it kidney inflammation? Or is it MM eating a bone? You’ll need an MRI, CAT or nuclear PET scan to determine. You are 79 so an ASCT is out of the question. I don’t know what type of MM you have but ask your doctor if it is IgA, IgG, etc. Ask her why you were not put on the Quad Cocktail (the gold standard of care) right from the beginning. If she gets irritated by the question find a new doctor. What took so long to get on Lenalidomide? That bad boy is $877 per pill here in the states. A disgrace that we can do nothing about in the capitalistic system. But I digress.

So let us know more about the source of pain. Is it coming out of the back of the hip bone, right side or does the kidney hurt.

In any event you need more diagnostic tests to bore in on this problem!

Certainly! Back pain in the context of myeloma can be a significant concern for many patients. Here's a brief overview based on the information provided:

- **Causes of Back Pain in Myeloma**: Back pain in myeloma patients can be due to various reasons, including fractures, tumors pressing against the spinal cord, or osteolytic lesions caused by the myeloma itself.
- **Treatment Approaches**: Addressing back pain typically involves managing the underlying myeloma. Treatment options may include medication, surgery, over-the-counter pain relief, and complementary therapies. It's crucial to diagnose and treat myeloma early to stay ahead of symptoms like back pain.
- **Medication Caution**: Patients are advised to avoid nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen unless directed by a doctor, as these can interfere with cancer treatments and other medications.
- **Complementary Therapies**: Physical therapy, acupuncture, yoga, meditation, and nutritional supplements are among the therapies that might help manage back pain. Additionally, using heating pads or ice packs can provide temporary relief.

It's important to consult with a healthcare provider to determine the most appropriate treatment plan based on the individual's specific condition and response to previous treatments.
