I was prescribed fentanyl when I had a biking accident and broke some ribs. I tried it once and it gave me constipation which in turn made my broken ribs pain worse. So I didn't use anymore. My brother has back problems that he has a hard time managing the pain for. When I told him I had fentanyl he almost begged me for them. The doctor does not like prescribing it to him but nothing else works. So yes if I had constant debilitating pain i would take fentanyl.

This is just my opinion, but I think Fentanyl should be used as a last resort. When no other options work. I would for sure start very low. I believe it starts at 12.5 mcg/ hour patch. It's a very potent drug. My only experience with Fentanyl was mostly for hospice patients.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member,
For my herniated disk at L4-L5 I had a shot and 2 pain pills to take. I barely felt relief. My mom only took 0.6 ml of morphine and a patch for her tumor in her spine. It worked. After seeing that, that’s what I am going to do. You can always try it.

I’ve just been checking on the same thing patches for my back fractures. My PCP said it’s about 10x stronger than oxycodone. And has to be prescribed by a pain management doctor. Some have reported here that it works. I’m working on getting into a pain specialist and hoping for some type of injections or patches as the pain just wears me out. Hope you find something that works for you. It’s hard to know which direction to go but you need to be an advocate for yourself. Best of luck!
