Hi Brenda,

When plasma cells in the bone marrow are at 8-10%, it often indicates a condition known as monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). MGUS is a plasma cell disorder where abnormal plasma cells are present but not in high enough numbers to be classified as multiple myeloma.

Here are some key points:
- MGUS: This is a benign condition and does not usually cause symptoms.
- Monitoring: Regular monitoring is essential to ensure it does not progress to multiple myeloma or another plasma cell disorder.
- Risk: The risk of progression from MGUS to multiple myeloma is about 1% per year.

It's good to stay in close contact with your healthcare provider to monitor your condition. If you have any concerns or symptoms, don't hesitate to reach out to them.

Take care!

Edith,
It’s nice your MM is stable. Mine is high risk, so it’s adding and deleting, which is not so good. I’m doing well by the grace of God.

Hi Pbaldini,
All my BMB have come back at 10% since the first one in 2005, so my doctor has stopped doing them. My MM is not showing up there, only in my blood work . I am on treatment now for 5 years since I started with fractures of the spine. I, also, take Xgeva every three months to keep my calcium levels in the normal range and to prevent more spinal fractures.

FYI, everyone with MGUS or Smoldering MM will tell you they have symptoms. Doctors say no, but they just look at tests. You know your body best. I was so active and strong and now I’m not. Doctors think that I’m my normal self. Weak, tired. That’s not me.

Bren,
I can't say for sure if it was the MGUS, but in 2021 I was sleeping most of the day. It turns out I had a heart condition and when I started medication for that, I stopped sleeping so much. Now I take 2 hour naps. I am tired most of the time. With MGUS, SMM or MM we have low red & white blood cells that can make us tired. Unfortunately, there are so many health conditions that overlap. Make sure you get checked out for everything.
