Tammie write down the questions you want too ask or put them on your cell phone and maybe have someone go too your appointments with you too help you remember and having an extra pair of ears helps you remember what was discussed.
Tammie, if you have a normal pattern on serum protein electrophoresis and immunofixation and no monoclonal protein that is very good news. If your bone marrow shows MRD negative at 10 -6. That's excellent news. Also a negative urine protein electrophoresis is great too. Love Donna
No MSpike is a very good thing. It’s possible that you’re in Complete Remission. Get a clonoSEQ test and you’ll know for sure. The test can be done from a blood sample or ideally from a bone marrow biopsy.
If you test MRD Negative at 10 -6, there’s really no reason to get a transplant. Negative 10 -6 is what the transplant hopes to achieve.
Transplants are 50 to 60% effective in achieving 10 -6 Negative.
There are times where Induction and Maintenance can achieve MRD Negative without a SCT.
If you’re 10 -6 Negative, lookup MRD2STOP. It explains why it’s best to be on No MM Meds once you’re MDR Negative.
(Note - they prefer 2 years of Negative results prior to stopping Maintenance - I waited 2 weeks after getting my first Negative results and stopped all MM Meds then - 9 months ago)
Normal protein means it’s a very faint line or don’t have none which usually not the case! But low or don’t have this protein is good! Maybe partial remission!
You will find out a lot when you do a bone biopsy and the results!
Good luck
Larry2, thank you for the above info.
