Stages By The Numbers

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Daytona Beach, FL

Can someone point me to the direction of finding how stages are determined? I thought I saw an article about that. I want to have that and then take a look at the numbers from my last blood labs. Thanks

Diane

Type in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and Myeloma Staging. It tells the two staging systems. Also the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation website goes over stages. Plus The Healthtree Foundation has Healthtree University that tells about staging. I just want to add that myeloma is a blood cancer. It's not staged like solid tumors. So don't let the staging stuff scare you. 💕

Donna,

Here is what my last labs showed on 11/30/22
M-spike, SPE, g/dL
0.9 g/dL

Immunofixation shows IgG monoclonal protein with lambda light chain specificity.
gG, quant
1625 mg/dL

Globulin, g/L
4.3 g/dL

Lambda light chain, free
80.5 mg/L

Kappa light chain, free
50.0 mg/L

A/G ratio
0.79

Creatinine
1.20 mg/dL
BUN
22 mg/dL
RDW-SD
47.3 fL
Also, I have right kidney damage from prior injury, it does not function well at all. Urologist sent me to Cancer doc originally, just because of some results he saw, that was 2019 like I said, we have been watching since then but I never knew anything about what the cancer labs meant. Just kept going as told, smiling at that statement. Thanks for your explanations it does help and gives me a sense of peace in the knowing. Diane

Your m spike is in liters. Mine is measured in Deciliters. So it would be 0.9. My IgG was 5600 at diagnosis. I'm just trying to make you feel better. I'm glad your getting monitored and they caught things before you get any organ damage. Is the 83/50 your kappa Lambda light chain numbers? You will want to know what type of myeloma you have. I'm IgG Lambda for instance. I watch my Lambda light chain number to see if my treatment is working or not😉

Thank you Donna. That was helpful. On my last labs it was my M Spike and lambda/Kappa that concerned the doc and me. M Spike was 9 and the other two were 83/50 also this one which I am not sure what it is, smiles
