I have never considered no treatment. I am 67 years old and have high risk MM and what I did decide is for now to skip chemo & Stem cell transplant. Opting for treatments only see how far it takes me. Right now I am responding real well to treatment. So taking it 1 treatment at a time. I would think no treatment would be very risky, since numbers are usually very elevated when they recommend treatment. Bringing the numbers down and maybe then stopping treatment until number go up again would probably be a better option. I can't begin to tell you how much better I feel with treatment. I have no symptoms or side effects from the medicine. Good luck on your journey with your husband.

Some people with early-stage MM, such as smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM), may not need immediate treatment and can live with the condition for many years without medication or procedures. However, active multiple myeloma, even in early stages, typically requires treatment to manage symptoms and prevent progression.

Given your husband's anemia and kidney disease, it's important to discuss all options with his healthcare provider to determine the best course of action. Supportive treatments can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

If you or your husband are feeling uncertain or anxious about treatment, it might be helpful to connect with others who have faced similar decisions. Many people in the MyMyelomaTeam community share their experiences and support each other through these challenging times.

Thank you so much Sally. I think he will be okay with the treatment after hearing others talk about the pros and cons. Just being diagnosed recently has put him in a little shock. And thanks to you and others responding, he is able to see that the treatment can prolong his life and give his a better quality of life.

Vanessa, without treatment your husband's overall survival may not be long. The clonal cancerous plasma cells will override all other immunity cells and WBC, platelets etc in his bone marrow and he won't be able to stave off infections especially pneumonia.
Talk to your health team. Go to healthtree.org under education and learn about MM.
