My first dr said they don’t because there isn’t a cure my new dr does so I think it depends on the dr

I asked my MM specialist in England and he actually gave me the stage I was in.

My oncologist also does not use staging ; he uses labs to determine how I am getting along in the disease and what I need to be taking. He says staging was done in the past .

Hopefully we are talking about the same thing. When I was first diagnosed with MM I asked what stage I was in and my oncologist said they don't use stages but go by your labs. I've read their are several methods used for staging. If I had the article I would reference it but I think I googled it. I think maybe oncologist say that because if they tell you you are a stage one and then you relapse, they don't want to have to explain that or may not can. I am 1 year and 3 months into MM treatment and my numbers continued to improve each treatment. I was then told I was in remission..My numbers were great and then I relapsed after 7 months with my numbers still being great which is very confusing..I learned a lesson that even if your numbers are good, you can still relapse..Go figure..Their explanation was cancer has a mind of its own..All it takes is one tiny cell to wiggle is way through and break the dam..I was devastated when they told me I relapsed . My only clue was my pain had picked up quite a bit and I knew it was not normal for me to hurt like that because that's how I hurt when I was first diagnosed..I still didn't believe i had relapsed because my numbers were good, I wasn't anemic and I wasn't tired..Ran a pet Scan and there it was..Didn't mean to be so long but hopefully this may help a bit. Let me know if you challenge the oncologist again to see if his answer mimics mine. Good luck!!
