Had My SCT In March, Just Got The Results From My Bone Marrow Biopsy Test For B-cell Tracking MRD And It Is Positive For RSD. ???
Does this mean my cancer is still there?
So the original goal of SCT wa "remission" for a statistical period of time (3 to 5 years or 5 to 7 years). Search Dr. Richardson at Dana-Farber who is the grandfather of SCT. His views have recently changed. And now other research centers have developed a new testing/diagnosing "terminology " called Minimal Residual Desease (MRD). It has now added even more confusion to the discussion. They say it can "count" the number if cancer cells in a sample. So, how many cancer cells do you have to die?
Dr Richardson has determined (and I agree ) that we are too obsessed and focused on remission and counts and should start focusing on lifetime.
He discovered that SCT has no effect on lifetime.
Having great numbers made me feel great. And then I relapsed 10 months after my SCT. After I got off the shoke and accepted that this is not a curable desease , I now go through my daily treatment and leave the results to God.
MM sux and I have bad days. Sometimes I ask myself I don't want to do this anymore. But I research heavily, talk this over with an experienced and optimistic oncologist and I have faith that there are great therapies to keep me alive and technology around the corner to cure it.
Sorry for the long winded response, but I try not to let test results control my emotions anymore.
Good luck to you..

Thank you. I am trying to stay positive and just enjoy my life I have, it just catches me off guard when I get results but don't understand them.
Thank you, I am also trying to stay positive. Those numbers can be over whelming sometimes. I just Keep my faith in God.
Do you know what the percentage is? I'm MRD positive but with 0.01 of 100 percentage of cancer cells detected and this was before I started immunotherapy and now considered in remission. Your doctor would be the best one to explain this to you. There could be several reason. How is your blood work? Good luck and keep us posted.
