What Doctors Have You Added To Your Team For Bone Issues?

My MM is in remission and I am now being treated for Osteoporosis. What kind of doctors did you see to understand the state of your bones, especially your spine, and to ensure you knew what it was ok to do and what you need to avoid as well as how to improve their health?

Sara,
I just Googled to find the doctor. Prolix can lower your high calcium, but it also has some serious side effects. One of the side effects is back pain 34%. I just looked them up and like most drugs they are scary. I would rather take supplements. It could be you weren’t taking enough or the brand wasn’t effective. I was taking calcium when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. I wasn’t taking D3 & K2 or Vitamin A with it. I just started taking more K2 since it tells the calcium to go to the bones. I have since learned that I should be taking Vitamin A with it.

How'd you find an Orthopedic Oncologist? (Actually I have seen one, who was awesome but was a knee specialist and I think I need a spine specialist - to learn the real status of my situation.). I was on Zometa while I was in treatment for MM and now do Prolia quarterly. I had Zometa before I knew what it was for - but I had pretty severe hypercalcemia when I was diagnosed for MM complete with brain fog. I'm also doing the Calcium and Magnesium and D3. Funny I was taking all of that and K2 when I was diagnosed.

Hi Sara,
I started by seeing a Rheumatologist in 2019, who wanted me to start taking Zometa for my osteoporosis, which then was -3.4. I refused because of the serious side effects like osteonecrosis. I get a lot of dental work done, I don’t need more problems. Instead, I started taking 1200mg of Calcium & Magnesium, D3 & K2. It’s working. You can only take Zometa for a short time but the effects of it lasts for years. I had an appointment with a Oncology Orthopaedic doctor who prescribed physical therapy.
