Has Anybody Experienced Fractures Since Being Diagnosed?
I had a broken sternum and a couple of ribs when I was diagnosed. Since then I’ve undergone induction chemotherapy for 5 months and a BMT. Bones seem to have healed up pretty well and I’m back hiking and climbing again.
Have a bone density scan scheduled in November to see what my situation is.
Hey Marcia. Im not very good in discussing the medical terminology (typical male), but I am trying to help! I was Cat 3 when I walked in UAMS/Little Rock 18 years ago (1999). I walked-in with 3 compact fractures of the spine from swinging a golf club! I have now had a total of 63 fractures/lesions since, but the lesions finally subsided about 4 years ago, when Pomlyst was added (21 days on/7 days off) to my weekly maint of Carfilzomib. I also had 1 rib that kept re-braking 3 times! All this to say, I started on Aredia for years and was them given Zometa (sp?) quarterly for the last (estimated) 7-8 years. Every 6 months, I have a BM Biopsy(just had #57) and they hate to see me coming (have a terrible time breaking through. Ask about Zometa (?) One thing I know..We are all different and react differently to the same drugs/treatments.
Yes,Myriam, I keep fracturing my ribs and L1 is a unchanged fracture from my latest x-ray in Dec . . I have more than 5,less than 20 fractures in my back ,when I got diagnosed 2 years ago this month . I was in so much pain .
My bones are weak from the cancer .
Because of dental problems,I had to put off taking my Zometa ,after my Stem cell transplant . I get a Zometa treatment once a month since Oct . 2018 .
Wow I really feel sorry for people that have fractured bones but so far I haven’t fractured any bones,I just have bone pain but my pain meds help. Good luck too everyone.
I added one compression spinal fracture after my bone marrow transplant, because I was lifting pots that were too heavy. (I don't do that anymore!) In the last couple of years I fell and broke a bone in my leg and about a year later I fell and when my husband tried to help me up, he broke my collarbone. I have healed up nicely and they continue to give me Zometa but now only once every quarter since there is a downside to taking those kinds of meds long term. I just have to be careful because they say my bones are almost invisible in x-rays. But I am pretty functional and I am fortunate I haven't fractured anything else.
