Curcumin, a component of turmeric, has been studied for its potential to slow the progression of precursor conditions like MGUS (Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance) and smoldering multiple myeloma. A small trial conducted in 2010 found that curcumin could decrease markers of MGUS severity. Another study launched in 2021 is exploring whether curcumin, supplemented with piperine (an alkaloid in black pepper), can prevent or delay the progression of MGUS or SMM. However, there is not yet enough evidence to suggest that people with MGUS should take curcumin supplements. Always consult with your healthcare provider before starting any new supplement.
