Plasmacytoma and multiple myeloma (MM) are related but distinct conditions. Plasmacytoma involves a single mass of abnormal plasma cells, usually in the bone or soft tissue, and does not necessarily mean that a person has multiple myeloma. However, having a plasmacytoma, especially a bone plasmacytoma, does increase the risk of developing multiple myeloma later. Studies have shown that a significant percentage of individuals with bone plasmacytoma may develop multiple myeloma within a few years.
