Does Anyone Receive Their Treatment From MD Anderson? If So, Are You Happy With Your Experience There? Thank You
I don’t think you will be disappointed at MD Anderson. I was so very lucky that a bad lift of a heavy object sent me to an orthopedic surgeon and he found the myeloma on a MRI before it could damage my kidneys. I’ve been in remission since the 3rd chemo treatment. Best of luck to you and your husband in his journey. I will keep you in my prayers for a good outcome. If you will fly to Houston try to take early morning flights. The delays due to storms are ridiculous! We’ve been at the airport all day long and they finally canceled our flight. They are routing us all over the place to get us home. Ugh!
Thank you so much for your response. That is what I think we need to do. My husband was diagnosed January 2023. He is stage 3, high risk. He has received good treatment, but he never hit remission and has been refractory. Our local doctor is wonderful but as you put it his focus is widespread. We feel like we need the input with more focused information on the latest studies and treatment. His kidney has been severely damaged by the myeloma, so his treatment has become very tricky. I read wonderful things about MD Anderson but really wanted to hear from someone who had been. Thank you so much for responding.
As soon as I was diagnosed we started researching myeloma specialists and found that MD Anderson has an excellent reputation. I immediately reached out to them and was assigned to an excellent myeloma doctor. She oversees my treatment and we fly to Houston once a month or so for an onsite appointment. I am four months into my treatment. My local hematology oncologist is excellent and his treatment protocol was spot on. However, his field is widespread and my MD Anderson doctor is totally focused on the latest information, studies and treatments. Her insight has been invaluable in tweaking my medications as I go through this journey. I do not regret one moment of time spent at MD Anderson and would recommend it to anyone with myeloma.
Soon after I was diagnosed at MDAnderson I got induction treatments, but after I was on maintenance I transferred to a local physician. It has been satisfactory, but I still have some residual cancer and treatment.
How Do I Tell My Oncologist I Would Like To See A Multiple Myeloma Specialist At MDAnderson Without Offending Him?
Had Anyone Switched Providers While In Treatment At Another Location ?
