Plus you could say what do you think about getting a multiple myeloma specialist on board then they can work together for your care.
I moved 59 miles away from my so I asked him for a referral closer to my home to get my infusions and the mm specialist still runs my care. They work together.

My local oncologist works collaboratively with a Dana Farber Multiple Myeloma Specialist . I am treated locally, and tested locally every 3 months now although more frequently at the start. I see my Dana Farber Specialist every 6 months for testing and consultation. A report from my consultation and test results is shared with my local oncologist. Most oncologists treat many cancers and can not keep up with everything so they would appreciate a collaborative approach. I hope you can get your local oncologist to give you a referral soon. It is the best option.

If he gets offended he doesn't need to be your doctor anymore. A second and even third opinion is mandatory with a cancer diagnosis. Sometimes it's just to validate the first opinion. Worry about you and not your doctor's feelings.

MD Anderson will need all of your medical information from your oncologist.
MD Anderson works with oncologists who do not specialize in MM, as they allow
treatments to be performed in your area, but you will have to have all labs and imaging done at the MD Anderson facilities. There are several in Texas. You will also be required to have a visit with MD Anderson every three months-maybe video.
That's if you want to be treated there, otherwise a consult will be just that, and they will give you their opinion. The best to you. Ava

Amen!!! These small town doctors don’t have the knowledge or have the expensive latest up to date equipment to see what big city doctors like mdanderson have access to!
By all means go to a specialist in a Cancer hospital otherwise you are spinning your wheels!
And who cares what they think it’s you and your body and good health that takes first precedence always!!!
