I’ve not made a permanent switch, but for continuity of care which is important, I’ll go to another oncologist when away from home.

So glad you are happy now ! I believe having the right oncologist / hematologist, as well as having the right facilities for them to work in, is an invaluable and crucial step in our treatments and long term success. Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center has a “Tumor Board” function where all the oncologists meet frequently and share their cases to be reviewed and suggestions from other oncologists are made on those that are problematic or are not seeing any progress towards remission. So you get “the best from the best.” It’s not dependent on just one doctor.

I’ve read of many who have moved and switched. Some to Florida, etc. theMMRF.org is a good resource in finding another Oncologist who is an MM Specialist. I have not started treatment, but I switched MM doctors 4 times. I’m happy at UCLA now.

Julie
I switched to another oncologist for a second opinion but neither are mm specialist since there are no mm specialists in Lake Charles.

But I do have an mm specialist at Md Anderson I see once a month or so and I am on his maintenance plan now. I communicate with both doctors on any problems I do have.

I had my stem cell transplant at Md Anderson in Houston and they are supposed to be one of the best hospitals. And not too far to drive about 3 hours so it worked out really good.

Hi Julie I’m in the process of switching now after I finished 16 weeks of induction as I had some breathing space and time to play with.it’s your life and if you feel your not getting the care /answers help etc that you need do the switch and research who your switching too as you don’t want to be jumping out the frying pan and into the fire and be clear as to what you expectations are good luck with whatever you decide.
