Does A Sudden Rise In Lambda Light Chains Indicate No Longer In Remission?
Original diagnosis of lambda light chain myeloma but in remission after stem cell transplant
Cathy the light chain ratios are hard to understand. They can go up and down some too. I think they are more concerned with the pattern from month to month. All the best, Doloresđź«‚
If your light chain suddenly starts to rise, watch it closely and if it continues to rise that is a trend. A trend upward is not the best trend. It does mean you are coming out of remission and you have to take control of the rising light chain. I would suspect your IgA or IgG is rising as well. Your doctor is the best person to ask as your doctor has the most experience with your overall situation. Wish you the best at getting control of your myeloma again. That's the name of this game with myeloma. It's a chronic disease we have to have control to live, unfortunately. Semi-remission is nice as long as we have it. Best of care.
Thanks for your reply
Hubby received the perfect induction therapy followed by the tandem ASCT’s. Then I’m sure he was on maintenance for the past couple of years of perhaps Revlimid, Dexamethasone and Darzalex FasPro.
Now something is not working but don’t panic. There are several avenues his medical team and take.
You may hear the recommendation of CAR-T or some other therapy. But don’t panic! He has 9 lives in this battle and he’s only used 2 of them.
I’m sort of in his general situation but I had high risk, very aggressive IgG Kappa Light Chain. I had the same induction as he but for 16 weeks. Then only one ASCT was needed even though they said prepare for two. I was ready but my BMT doctor made the bold statement, “I’m going to miss you, I’ll see you when you’re 80!” I was 72 then and somewhat shocked he could say that.
Right away my wife said I was cured but she didn’t understand this cancer will be back.
My maintenance doctor yesterday said the MRD test indicated zero myeloma cells in the bone marrow. Now that’s a true statement but the MM could be elsewhere as he then said “you still have a little monoclonal protein in the blood.”
This is why this disease is on our mind each and every day. Either we see it in our hospital reports or we feel it physically.
In any event I wouldn’t dwell on this bump in the road because you are blessed to have a world class team that is up to date on the latest clinical trials and approved available drug regimen.
If your research finds that those of us that relapse quickly have less expected longevity take it with a grain of salt. Technology is taking us into the future!
A sudden rise in lambda light chains can be concerning as it might indicate that the multiple myeloma is no longer in remission. This is because in light chain multiple myeloma, an increase in light chains, such as lambda or kappa, can signify an active disease state.
