Has Anyone Not Chosen To Do The Bone Marrow Transplant With Multiple Myeloma And Is In Remission Without Doing It?
I’m in remission and did not have an SCT. I’m 75. My Mspike is .1 and my doctor considers that remission. It’s been .1 for a year now. My maintenance routine is Darzalex fas pro injection once a month and Dexamethasone 20mg once a week. I have a Zometa infusion once every three months. I am fatigued a lot and have insomnia on dexamethasone nights but I am feeling well enough to do a 35 day cruise in the Pacific. Of course while on the trip I got Covid a few days and a sinus infection and came home with bronchitis but I could have picked up illness by going to Walmart so I prefer having beautiful island scenery and room service while I’m sick. 😊
Thank you for replying it definitely helps to hear other’s stories ❤️
Hi Melody, welcome! Yes, I have not had a SCT and am in remission. I was categorized as stage one and went into remission during induction therapy month 3 or 4. After meeting with the SCT specialist there was no indication that a SCT would benefit me maybe a few months more in remission. From all I’ve read here it’s really rough. I think it all depends on what stage you are at and if you are unable to get into remission. There are several articles that SCT is old protocol and with the newer meds not always necessary. Again everyone is different and different stages. It’s a big decision so ask lots of questions and weigh your choices. Wishing you the best of luck in your decision. 🍀
