Is A Bone Marrow Transplant And A Stem Cell Transplant The Same Thing?
They are the same...parts of one process of harvesting our stem cells, destroying our bone marrow, and then re-introducing our stem cells back into our bodies. I am on Day 44 after my transplant and doing great now...
Yes, stem cell transplant and bone marrow transplant are interchangeable terms. Myeloma patients usually always get an autologous transplant. From our own stem cells. Which is preferable because it avoids graft vs host disease. Leukemia patients get allogeneic transplants, from a donor💕
The bone marrow transplant consists of first harvesting stem cells for later use in a Stem Cell transplantation process. There are resource articles on this site that you can access by clicking on the RESOURCE ARTILcES above and scrolling through the menu to Stem cell transplant articles..There are many multiple myeloma topics of information available there.. I hope this helps.
Same same.
I have had 2 stem cell transplants and they removed stem cells from my blood through a harvesting method. They then introduced the stem cells back into my blood after a lot of chemo.
Bone marrow is inside the bones and blood does run through it but I believe it is different than stem cells.
Allogeneic (donor) Stem Cell Transplant
Has Anyone Had A Bone Marrow Transplant? I Am Going This Week To Talk To A New Doctor About The Procedure. I Would Appreciate Any Comments.
