Bone Marrow Transplants
My doc is encouraging a transplant and not giving me much info about where to do it. Should I get a second opinion as to whether I need one
I went through 4 rounds of Chemo and then I had an auto transplant and 3 months later an allo transplant. It was difficult for the first couple years but I did keep on working in between transplants. I had very high risk MM but I have been okay for 14 years now.
I had my ASCT (autologous stem cell transplant) completed in July 2022 at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville, TN. They have a complete staff that specializes only in ASCT. They have an entire section of the hospital dedicated for ASCT patients. They are very professional and very attentive to the patient’s needs during this very important time. It took several months with lots of visits to complete the entire process. However, I’m now in remission and only on maintenance level chemotherapy. They also help with temporary housing and insurance costs if required. Best of luck. God bless.
My doc is respecting my choice. I’m still in remission with no meds. His plan is start me on revlimed in July if I’m still in remission. I’d rather not take any meds but I guess he’s trying to keep me in remission
Greetings from Alaska I had a SCT in December 2021. I did not achieve remission, but I am in much better shape than if I had not gotten the SCT. I was diagnosed at stage three so the transplant essentially has given me that second chance, along with treatment twice a month.and cancer rehab where I work out twice a week and doing well building some muscle strength back. my last bone marrow biopsy I have than 1% of myeloma cells so I still have not achieved remission but I am doing very well. by the grace of my God, take care and good luck.
Bone marrow transplant and stem cell transplant are interchangeable terms. Myeloma patients usually get autologous transplants. From our own cells. Allogeneic transplant is from a donor💗
