A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I believe it’s got more to do with inflammation. Could be food, stress, toxins. When we have this it’s harder to heal- each of us different, try different things that reduce inflammation. Having a more plant based, Flexitarian, Mediterranean diet could help, juicing is beneficial but also movement to get lymphatic system draining, yoga, meditation, changing things you use in home. I saw that someone in my area does healing massages that I’m gonna try. But it’s one of those things, doctors can’t even tell us. 😢

Samar,
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member posts about heme iron being bad for cancer. I don’t eat a lot of meat, so I don’t worry about it. I eat more fish. Vegetables have non-heme iron. Unsulphered blackstrap molasses is non-heme iron. I avoid caffeine, carbonation, and salty foods because they take calcium out of the bones, which causes pain and cramping. I take Nutritional Yeast to prevent neuropathy.

Samar I don’t know if I would believe that because I have eaten whatever I wanted too over the last 22years so it doesn’t seem too hurt me any so what do you think.

I'm 14 years with stage 3 MM and I have always ate what I want. Ice cream, cake, sweet rolls, steak, pasta, cereal, eggs, pancakes, sausage, I eat whatever I have a taste for but that work's for me and might not for others.

Hello Samar,
A balanced diet is important to help you maintain health during multiple myeloma or otherwise. There are webinars by Healthtree and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation that promote their recommendations of healthy diets. There are many proponents of various types of diets whether plant based, vegan , etc. I had a diet plan recommended by my physical therapy facility early in my multiple myeloma journey which consisted of the typical food pyramid of fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats, and fiber carbohydrates. The most important part of the diet was to avoid highly processed foods and fiber carbohydrates. Healthtree University may have some diet recommendations. Some cancer treatment centers have dietitians that can help. I hope that you can find a solution that meets your individual needs.
