Managing pain related to myeloma, such as back, hip, or spine pain, involves several approaches:

Medical Treatments:
- Medication: Prescribed pain relievers, including opioids or narcotics, may be used, but they come with side effects like constipation and risk of dependence.
- Surgery: Techniques like kyphoplasty can reinforce fractured bones with bone cement. Tumors causing pain may be treated with surgery or radiation therapy.
- Radiation Therapy: Used to treat tumors and osteolytic lesions, helping to reduce pain and strengthen bones.
- Back Brace: Helps stabilize the spine and reduce pressure.

Complementary Therapies:
- Physical Therapy (PT): Can improve mobility and reduce pain. One member noted PT helped them walk again.
- Acupuncture/Acupressure: May provide pain relief.
- Yoga and Meditation: Can help manage pain and improve overall well-being.
- Exercise and Diet: Staying active and eating nutritious meals can support pain management.
- Heating Pads/Ice Packs: Offer temporary pain relief.

Lifestyle Adjustments:
- Avoid Over-the-Counter NSAIDs: Medications like aspirin and ibuprofen should be avoided unless directed by a doctor, as they can interfere with cancer treatments and cause harm.

Support Networks:
- MyMyelomaTeam: A social network where members share experiences, advice, and support.

Specific Conditions:
- Vertebral Compression Fractures: Can cause sudden, sharp pain and may lead to spinal collapse or kyphosis, which can be treated with injections to right the collapsed vertebrae.

Caution:
- Consult Your Doctor: Always discuss with your healthcare provider before starting any new treatment or therapy.
