I have to be honest, I really don't care about survival rates. Based on the AI response, I should be dead by now. But I'm in a state right now where my MM is under control and its not killing me. My issue is dealing with the side effects of treatment, which requires effort and I'm winning that battle.
I have a great oncologist and we both agree that its a game of staying one step ahead of the disease. After 2 1/2 years I am on my fourth line of treatment and its working. I also expect it to fail one day and I'll move on to the next line of treatment. And thats how we are staying one step ahead of the disease by being grateful there are 2-3 new lines of treatment already available to the general public that are completely unique and new treatment types. So i can move on to them next if necessary. It took me awhile to accept that MM is not curable, but it is very treatable.

Brian,
We all respond differently and have different types of MM. I have 2 cousins who have had it for years and years and another friend who has had it for years and years. AI is telling you old information. Currently, the outlook is good.

This AI generated answer isn’t very encouraging is it?! 😳 I have met MANY people on the Multiple Myeloma Warrior Community Facebook group who have lived with MM for 15 or 20 years. Now that treatments are so much better we are living longer. Yay! 🥳
I expect to be around for a long time. 🙏🏻

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member,
My mom had Stage 4 ovarian cancer for years. When she relapsed the third time, she said no more chemo. She lived another 4 1/2 years and had better quality of life than she did on chemo. The last 6 months I took care of her, and yes it was hard watching her get worse, but we had a lot of fun too. I have lots of wonderful memories from that time. Pretending I was at a sleepover, on her Dex nights. We would share stories and not get any sleep. That was okay, because I expected to have fun. Ten months after she passed, she came to me in a dream, dressed in a blue wool or cashmere fitted long coat, walking down a couple of steps. Calling me to come up the steps. She looked so young and beautiful. When it’s my time, I will look for her on those steps to heaven. Barb, I hope you get a dream about your husband that will comfort you.🙏🏻

Thanks. So hard to watch someone that kept getting worse.
