Is Anyone Else Suffering With High Blood Pressure Since Being Diagnosed With MM?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Bangor, ME

I've always had low blood pressure, but since being diagnosed in November 2023 with MM, I have been on a med for high blood pressure. I've tried to wean off the med as my health improves, but the BP reading spikes. I'm thinking it may be another medication causing the high BP.

Check with your doctor. He/she may have safe parameters for your blood pressure.

High blood pressure (hypertension) can indeed be a concern for people diagnosed with multiple myeloma (MM). According to my knowledge base:

- Cardiovascular Problems: Many people with myeloma experience cardiovascular issues, including hypertension. This can be due to the myeloma itself or as a side effect of treatments such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy, and immunomodulatory drugs.
- Medication Side Effects: Certain cancer therapies can lead to heart problems, including high blood pressure. If you suspect your medication is causing high BP, it's important to discuss this with your doctor.
- Regular Monitoring: People with heart conditions should have regular follow-up visits with their cardiologists while undergoing treatment for myeloma.

Given your history of low blood pressure and the recent changes, it would be wise to consult your healthcare provider to review your medications and overall treatment plan.
