Acupuncture For Peripheral Neuropathy
Has anyone tried Acupuncture for peripheral neuropathy in the hands or feet? I’ve read it may help, but could take several months of weekly treatments to show a positive effect. Our local cancer center offers 10 weeks of free treatments. I just completed a treatment yesterday which I found very relaxing. The spa music and warm blankets did me in. 😁
I have done acupuncture since I done my SCT and it just alittle helps but it’s okay, asked my Hemotology doctor end it said you also should do cupping come together , The accupuncist that was from the china region and he has been doing this for almost 25 years, he said that the best when you do acupuncture is on Monday,Tuesday.Friday because of the blood flow and it effective but the cost of the procedure you got for three sessions about 350$ Singapore dollars
I have had about 40 Accupuncture sessions and dropped the pain from neuropathy considerably from a level of 7/10 to 3/10. However, numbness often still remains an issue since my neuropathy has two components needle like pain and numbness. Inflammation from diet affects my neuropathy as hard workouts and walks can increase my neuropathy. My experience with accupuncture while positive is not conclusive to elimination of neuropathy, but has improved the overall muscle tone in my hands and feet. I plan on evaluating continuing my sessions when my prepaid sessions conclude. I have maintenance sessions once/week until December.
I plan on restarting my kinesiology tape on my feet then to see where my level of pain settles. I believe inflammatory diet and my chemo Revlimid maintenance may be contributing to my continued neuropathy? I plan on discussing this at Dana Farber with my MM Specialist.
Ps…When I do experience a bad day caused by inflammation
I take 2 Extra Strength Tylenol which demonstrates the reduction in neuropathy pain.
I used foot and hand massager - CBD cream seemed to help and support comfort
Could you tell us which foods aggravate your inflammation the most? Besides the usual processed foods, sugar, salt, red meat?
Hi DonnAndrew,
Certain foods can contribute to inflammation in the body, which can exacerbate chronic health conditions like heart disease, diabetes, and arthritis. The same foods that increase inflammation can also aggravate neuropathy. Neuropathy, which involves nerve damage, can be exacerbated by inflammation in the body.
Here are some common culprits:
1. Red and Processed Meats: These include steak, hamburgers, bacon, sausage, hot dogs, and deli meats. They are high in saturated fats, which can trigger inflammatory proteins.
2. Refined Carbohydrates: Foods made with white flour, such as white bread, pasta, and rice, can cause inflammation. Whole grain alternatives are generally better options.
3.Sugary Foods and Beverages: High sugar intake from desserts, candy, soft drinks, and sports drinks can lead to inflammation by affecting how the body processes insulin.
4.Processed Foods: Packaged snacks, margarine, non-dairy creamers, microwaveable meals, and flavored yogurts often contain additives and trans fats that can promote inflammation.
5. Fried Foods: Items like fried chicken, french fries, and donuts are typically high in unhealthy fats that can trigger inflammation.
6. Slcoholic beverages.
If you’re looking to reduce inflammation, focusing on a diet rich in whole foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins can be beneficial.
