Wow. I thought once you were old enough to retire, SSI was not possible. Too late for me but good for someone..

Yes, you can apply for disability benefits even if you are already receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI). Here are some key points to consider:

- Eligibility for SSDI: If you have a recent full-time work history and have paid into Social Security through payroll taxes, you may be eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI).
- Medical Evidence: Ensure you have comprehensive medical documentation about your multiple myeloma and related conditions, such as back pain.
- Application Process: You can apply for SSDI online, at a local Social Security office, or over the phone.

If you are approved for SSDI, you may receive benefits six months after your disability was diagnosed. Additionally, after receiving SSDI for 24 months, you will become eligible for Medicare.

Angie, I believe you are correct SS is more than SSDI especially if you start collecting at 70. I plan on retiring at 70 relying on SS for most of my income. Running the numbers it will be more than 60% of my current bring home income since I will not pay taxes on it. And bring a high single earner, I am being tax heavily right now.

Maybe after I go back to mdanderson august 16th and get the rest of my vaccinations do another mri to see why I’m still having back pain after kyphoplasty was done.
I’m sure it’s due to the fact that my diagnosis was stage 3 and it took 5 months to even get a diagnosis.
By that time mm had done so much damage to my bones.
Anyway I will pray for God’s wisdom in all of this and in the meantime don’t worry be happy!!!

Ava,
I researched it online saw that disability is way more than social security.
It’s just a shame I have worked hard for more than 50 years of my life paying into social security and now because of age I cannot draw disability when I really need it only social security.
There’s something wrong with that picture!
Because if I had gotten rid of this back pain I would be back working today. My employer is holding my job for me to return and now I can’t.
