I Had Multiple Myeloma Cancer. I'm In Remission Now. I Was Wondering Why I Never Got Help When I Had 6 Broken Bones On My Spine?

It took them 3 Months to find out what I had? I went into Septic Shock and just about died. I'm in Real Bad Painin my Spine. I hurt so bad that I have a hard time trying to sleep. I just now got so I can walk with out a walker, and I can give myself a Shower. But still need a little help, cause I can't bend over and touch my toes. They had to cut out some of my teeth. They were hurting me so bad that I couldn't eat, and they got infected too. I found out that I had MM in 2018, and after a few Of… read more

Well I started hurting in July 2022 went to bone doctor i august 2022 cause otc meds had no effect on back pain none doctor looked at X-rays couldn’t tell me what it was so primary care dr had me do colonoscopy in November 2022 then primary care dr sent me to oncologist who said let’s wait and see cause he had trouble finding any mm cells so finally Dec 2022 oncologist starts me on chemo treatment. That is 5 months of no body knows what’s going on while mm is wreaking havoc on all my bones so now I’m left with damages from mm because doctors from all the X-rays pt scans cat scans blood tests bone biopsy … simply could not find any mm cells.
How does this happen?

Of course my primary didn’t see any MM cells but he was astute enough to order the right panel of blood work which showed M spike. He immediately knew it was multiple myeloma from his experience with other patients here in cancer alley. So I considered myself diagnosed within minutes of getting the blood results. Luckily he called a friend in the MM area and I saw him the next day. Within 3 weeks my shoulder was replaced and chemo started soon thereafter.

Blessed Beyond Belief!

Hello AngieNixon: It surely should not be happening, nor should it have happened to you! Did your Doctors ever give an account as to why? How are you now! You are an example of those who find strength in staying calm, who receive comfort, help & protection, being sustained- kept safe while on their sick bed. Q&A? ❤️🤗🌹

I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Multiple myeloma can cause significant bone damage, including vertebral compression fractures, which can lead to severe pain and deformities. Here are some reasons why timely help is crucial:

- Bone Lesions: Myeloma cells can weaken bones faster than they can be rebuilt, leading to painful bone lesions.
- Vertebral Fractures: These fractures can cause sudden, sharp pain and may lead to spinal collapse and spinal cord compression.
- Kyphosis: Multiple fractures can result in an abnormal curvature of the spine, contributing to chronic back pain.

Treatment options for such conditions include:
- Kyphoplasty: A minimally invasive procedure to reinforce fractured bones with bone cement.
- Radiation Therapy: To reduce tumor size and treat osteolytic lesions.
- Pain Medications: Including opioids for severe pain, though they come with risks like dependence.

If you feel your pain was not adequately addressed, it might be helpful to discuss this with your healthcare provider to ensure better management in the future.
