I'm hoping I don't have to worry about end of life care for awhile. I would like to be able to stay in my home.

I hope we all live to be in our 90's and have comfort care with hospice at home🥰🙏

I did get a book out of our cancer Center library recently about end of life care. We have a local member who has been looking for information. I have not finished reading it yet.

At the end of life for someone with myeloma, several things can be expected:

Symptoms:
- Increasing exhaustion and spending a lot of time sleeping
- Weight loss
- Trouble eating or drinking
- Difficulties focusing or carrying on a conversation
- Losing interest in the outside world
- Slower and louder breathing
- Dry mouth and lips
- Loss of bladder or bowel control
- Repetitive movements
- Confusion

Care Options:
- Palliative Treatments: These help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
- Hospice Care: Focuses on comfort and quality of life, stopping treatments aimed at controlling myeloma but continuing those for pain and symptom relief.

Mental Health:
- Anxiety and Depression: Common among cancer patients; talking to family, friends, healthcare team, or mental health professionals can help.
- Support Groups: Online communities like MyMyelomaTeam can provide support.

Planning:
- Advance Directives: Legal documents to communicate end-of-life medical decisions.
- Getting Affairs in Order: Making plans ahead of time can ease the process.

Cause of Death:
- Typically due to complications such as kidney failure or severe infections like pneumonia, rather than myeloma itself.
