I’ll Be Starting On Medicare In December…any Tips For Picking A Plan That Best Covers MM?
Thanks for posting that bill Mark. A million bucks and growing. The cancer industry is very profitable.
Just remember you have a life long chronic illness. Insurance companies are in the risk management business, not the health care business.
My opinion, get a supliment, not an Advantage program. Get the best prescription plan you can find. Cancer drugs are very expensive. Get a part G supliment like Mark showed.
Lock in a plan the first time. By law, pre-existing conditions must be covered on your first choice. But if you switch, they may not cover it anymore.
Be prepared. Healh care expense (no just insurance) will be your greatest expense in retirement.
Be sure to get Plan G in the supplement. Pay the monthly fee. Don’t go with $0 plans. Trust me.
I have to do my research as well, but I'm leaning towards a supplement with a drug plan. Plan G is very popular.
Be very careful! Please fact check me on the things I write here and Do YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!! This is a very important decision.!!! These are only some of my own understandings. Check the amounts you’ll need to pay for multiple myeloma meds. They are super expensive. Regular Medicare can be used pretty much anywhere you may decide to get treatment for medical; doctor visits , procedures; hospital stays etc. With regular Medicare you’ll also need to purchase a supplement to cover deductibles and 20% copays for medical and a part D plan for medications.
Important to inquire about from a credible source: if you initially choose to go with a Medicare Advantage plan you can switch back to regular Medicare BUT because you have multiple myeloma, you may NOT be able to purchase a supplemental plan later on if you don’t like the advantage plan.
Again check with a knowledgeable source to see if the above is correct.
Note the screenshot Mark posted of an explanation of benefits that amplifies how important this decision is to you.
Straight Medicare plus supplement. Can’t beat it. Over time pays for itself
