A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have SMM & watching & waiting, How does someone decide what prescription D Plan to buy, if you don't the medications now & on cheap prescription plan now. Waiting for my shoe to falloff & all of a sudden I need the medications. Then the medications are so expensive a month & unaffordable.

Per: https://www.medicare.gov/about-us/prescription-...

Your yearly Part D out-of-pocket costs will be capped at $2,000, starting in 2025. You’ll also have the option to pay out-of-pocket costs in monthly amounts over the plan year, instead of when they happen.

******************
For 2025, take any and all of your drug prescriptions and add up the total cost; you pay $2,000, and your Part D carrier pays the rest.

$20,000 / month = $240,000 / year. Your share $2,000. Insurance pays $238,000.

You must have Medicare A & B to purchase a Part D plan (Advantage plans need not apply).

Get the Traditional Part A, Optional Part B, Supplemental Part G, and the Part D Drug. Yes, you will pay more in premiums than the the "free" / cheap Advantage plans, but you will save more than enough on claims cost to offset the premiums.

With insurance you get what you pay for.

Cheap premiums = less coverage.

If it sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.

Hi John. My name is Janet742 and I am from Australia. I am 77yrs old and am a pensioner. It grieves me that your country charges so much for drugs. Not that I’m saying all drugs in Australia are not expensive, they are for a lot of drugs. Because I am a pensioner so far I pay $6.70 for Revlimid, Zometa, Dexamethasone. Each drug cost $6.70 per month. I hope you can get your drugs at an affordable cost with the help provided by others in your Country.

I went on Medicare.gov today & researched prescription plans. I found a plan that cost under $30 / month, more than what I pay now, but if I had to take REVLIMID it would cover cost no more than $3300 vs. $67,000 not covered on my current plan. Thanks for sharing where to check it out!
