I Have Had 2 Blood Tests With An M Spike. Not Very High.0.3. Then I Had A Covid Vaccine Booster.

Three-4 weeks after the booster my M spike was gone. Does that mean the MGUS is gone and it was just a freak thing. Or did it have something to do with vaccine.

What Is M Protein in Multiple Myeloma? Read Article...
A MyMyelomaTeam Member

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member I am wondering the very same thing, this recently happened to me. M protein has never shown on SPEP's/IFE for me, only on the mass spec blood testing through https://www.enroll.promisestudy.org/, until now! Now it is undetectable on Mass spec!!! Mass spec is much more sensitive than SPEP, so I am not sure what is going on!?!

I do have high Kappa free light chains and kappa/lambda ratio, so there is elevated protein in my blood, just not showing M protein in the SPEP or Mass Spec now.

It is my understanding that the levels can be so low as to be undetected, or you can have non-secretory or light chain myeloma that only secretes light chains, but how can you have Monoclonal Gammopathy of Undetermined Significance without monoclonal protein?

I also found this link and explanation, but I've not had any infections or anything that would affect the m protein in this manner.

https://ashpublications.org/blood/article/140/S...

"Background: Among clinicians, it is well-known that the identification of a monoclonal(M) protein may disappear at a later timepoint (transient M protein) after certain infections, in the setting of some auto-immune conditions, or other conditions."

Sorry this is more confusing than it helps, but if I can get an easy-to-understand explanation as to why this happens, I will definitely update you with it! 🤗 ❤️

I want to know if the M spike ever goes away after it is found. My M spike disappeared from blood work after Covid booster.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Personally I doubt the vaccine had anything to do with the drop in the M-Spike. Have you had a recent change in medication, an increased dose, something like that? That would, in my mind, explain the disappearance of the M-Spike.
When Pomalyst quit working for me and I was switched to Ninlaro, my M-Spike disappeared again.

I think I asked this before; RSV vaccination is covered by some insurance plans but what about Medicare? One shot would cost 300.00, out of pocket, here.
