Has Any One With Stage 1 Multiple Myeloma Had A Stem Cell Transplant? If Not, What Maintenance Program Are You On?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Cadillac, MI

I have Stage 1 multiple myeloma. I started treatment in January because of proteins in my urine. I am on Velcade, Revlimid and dexamethasone. I am on my 4th cycle. My understanding is that Revlimid will suppress stem cell production. So if down the road I may want a stem cell transplant my maintenance program would be the Velcade. I think the Revlimid might be a better option to for remission. I am wondering what others have found with your treatments.

@A MyMyelomaTeam Member sorry for the delayed response I’ve been doing 10mg about 6 months now and my numbers remain good. This is tough as we know we can relapse but everyone is different. Some folks can remain in remission for years. All we can do is hope we are amongst the lucky ones and that a cure will be found soon. How have you been doing?. Hope you are doing well! Have a wonderful day!

I had a stem cell in January 2024 and now am on revlimid 10mg. Handling it well other than a few itchy bumps on my upper shoulders, but not too bothersome. Had been on 25mg prior to the stem cell transplant. Hope all is well

Thanks for your response!! How long have you doing the 10 mg revlimid? Does it seem to be keeping your test levels where you want to be? I am doing pretty well. I have some fatigue and tingling in my feet. I am trying to look for the best path forward.

Hi Jill, I have not had a SCT and am on 10 mg revlimid daily for maintenance. I seem to be tolerating the revlimid. But just like most have fatigue and back pain. Hope you are doing well!

The context provided does not specify whether individuals with Stage 1 multiple myeloma typically undergo stem cell transplants or what specific maintenance programs they might be on. However, it does mention that maintenance therapy after a stem cell transplant has become the standard of care for people with multiple myeloma, suggesting that stem cell transplants are a common treatment approach, potentially even in earlier stages of the disease.

For maintenance therapy, the context notes that it often involves novel drugs and is designed to be ongoing, possibly lasting for years. The goal is to manage the disease effectively by keeping myeloma cells at bay, which is assessed through methods like bone marrow aspiration.

If you are considering or discussing treatment options, it's crucial to have a detailed conversation with your oncologist to understand the best approach for your specific stage and condition of multiple myeloma.
