Has Anyone Decided To Forgo A Stem Cell Transplant And Only Do Maintenance Therapy? If Yes, How Are Things Going?
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Sally, I’ve been to a couple of specialists all I can do is exercise to help build up some muscle. Unfortunately I’m just going to have to deal with it. Hopefully I’ll stay in remission and I’d be more than thankful for that. Hope you have a wonderful evening!
Lots of people have done that. Look up the Determination Trial. I was on it and it showed a longer upfront remission but no difference in life expectancy. The new meds are a game changer. Do what you feel comfortable with. There are also side effects with the SCT🙏🏼
Hi Sally, I did not do a SCT, but I did go into remission around my third month of induction therapy. I did do all eight rounds of induction and have now been on maintenance for about four months. I am doing well. But just like everyone it depends on what stage you are at and as we know the meds can stop working and it can be active again. Such a stressful disease. Have to make the most of our good days as we can! Hope you are doing well!
Donna and Sally I really appreciate the concern and support but Sally I was told that I wouldn’t come back 100% but I was quite happy with 75% because it allowed me to carry on with my life and return to work plus the years were a good quality of life too.
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member Thanks Jeff...this is super helpful! Are you taking Zometa or some similar drug to help with the MM bone issues?
