Cohofly is correct.

You have to be off of bone strengthening meds for minimum of 5 months prior to dental work, and remain off a minimum of 2 months following the work.

The risk is any trauma to the jaw can lead to necrosis. We followed these guidelines prior to removing a wisdom tooth that never completely emerged and was creating an infection; however, I still had a necrosis incident that resulted in a small section of jaw bone having to be removed.

Ask if the periodontal disease can be held in check with antibiotics to get you through the 5 month clearance period. My oral surgeon prescribed doxycycline 100mg, 2x daily.

I am now going through a deep clean process. It is being spread out over 8 weeks; one quadrant biweekly. During the entire process, I am on the doxycycline and checked weekly to ensure any necrosis is caught quickly.

Greetings from Anchorage. I’m sorry that you are having dental issues. Are you presently taking a bone agent to strengthen your bones? I know that I am on Xgeva and I had to stop that drug in order to have dental work. The main issue is bone deterioration. Please keep us posted on how you are doing. I hope you get some answers soon. What does your transplant team say about this issue? Hang in there take a couple of deep breaths. Meditate.
