Yes, I’m on maintenance therapy now which is much much better but the meds sure do affect your moods and emotions. Wishing you the best!!

Greetings from Alaska and the emotional roller coaster can be exhausting at the beginning of treatment. I was taking 20 mg of dexamethasone working my way up to 40 and I couldn’t do it. Dexamethasone kept me up all night long had me cooking and baking and I am not a baker. Any movie would make me cry it could’ve been Mickey Mouse. I am much better now my dexamethasone has been dropped to 8 mg and I’m not up all night. My blood sugars have not gone past 120 which is excellent for me. I do not take medication for diabetes. I’ve done it all by diet and exercise with the A1c this time of 5.8 and I’ve been addressing my diabetes through diet and exercise for over 15 years so this has not changed. I just have to be very vigilant on treatment day which can be emotional. I incorporated mindfulness meditation, and I may do it several times during a day to just keep myself on a calm level especially if I have to conduct business that can be emotional. I hope this helps. God bless you and your family.

Hi Karen,
I found that dexamethasone created emotional imbalance and insomnia. A new diagnosis can be stressful until learning about multiple myeloma too.

Yeah a diagnosis of MM cancer can cause all sorts of different emotional upsets. It’s a lot to digest in the first few months and you’re so busy with your treatments and appointments it’s a good idea to have someone with you when you go to Dr. appointments just so you have another set of ears because your memory is going to get worse after you start your chemo. My memory is horrible from the chemo which is why it’s called CHEMO BRAIN. My wife is my memory but I can remember things from my high school days but not what I had for supper last night. Good luck and I have had MM since 2002 so don’t forget that.

Yes all of it piles up and it is an emotional roller coaster. The tough part for me was trying to figure out which of my drugs and treatments were causing all my side effects.
