Good morning Elise!

I just had my first doses of dexamethasone and Valcade last week. I really didn’t have too much of a reaction to either. I did experience some insomnia and a dull headache off and on for a couple of days. Perhaps, since I’m just beginning my treatment regimen, I had only minimal side effects.

Hang in there my fellow warrior. Remember we’re in this fight together.

It sounds like you're experiencing some side effects from Velcade and Decadron. Here are some relevant points from the knowledge base:

Velcade (Bortezomib) Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: Fatigue, fever, rash, headache, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, low blood count, psychiatric disorders, and peripheral neuropathy.
- Serious Side Effects: Heart failure, damage to the lungs, liver, or gastrointestinal system, low blood counts, fetal harm in pregnant women, numbness or tingling in the extremities, and low blood pressure that may lead to fainting.

Skin Reactions:
- Rashes and Skin Changes: Some members have reported rashes after Velcade injections. One member mentioned using clobetasol cream for rashes after belly shots, which worked well for them. Another member found relief by changing the injection site from the abdomen to just below the shoulder.

Decadron (Dexamethasone) Side Effects:
- Feeling Shaky: It's not uncommon to feel shaky after taking Decadron (dexamethasone), especially at higher doses like 40 mg.

Recommendations:
- Consult Your Oncologist: Always inform your oncologist about any side effects you experience. They can provide guidance on managing these reactions and may suggest alternative injection sites or treatments.
- Avoid Ice Packs: For rashes, avoid using ice packs as they can increase damage to sensitive skin.

I’ve been on velcade since September, I don’t like the reaction, big red and itchy, mildly uncomfortable on my stomach. Also, about 12 hours later I get a days worth of diarrhea! I plan on going for a second opinion in Seattle soon, maybe they will give me a better alternative.

I had a local reaction to Velcade each time but no itching and seems to resolve in a few days.
