Believe My Brother Will Be Diagnosed With MM Light Chain. What Is That And Is That More Concerning? He Is 79 And Has Other Issues As Well.
Hi Jim,
I have the Light Chains MM.
Basically the cells continue to reproduce uncontrolled and crowd out the healthy cells to start with. Eventually it will start to consume the area and move out into the system, effectively becoming Multiple Myeloma as opposed to Myeloma.
That's the short answer. I strongly encourage you to read up on Multiple Myeloma.
But there are a few different starting points for this disease, MGUS, Smoldering MM and Active MM.
It's not a curable disease, it progresses at different rates for each person, especially if you already have underlying problems.
And yes there is more to come.
Is he seeing a MM Oncologist or something else?
Also the standard treatment is Chemotherapy, that is hard on certain organs like Kidneys and Liver.
I have allot of information about my experience I can share. I was diagnosed young 29, 42 now and it's been a long painful journey thus far. Still fighting but it's a losing battle regardless cause it isn't curable.. Just managed or slowed.
Please let me know if you want to learn more detail, however I imagine learning about MM itself will answer most of the questions you might have.
Good luck to you both and tell thst warrior not to give up.
Sincerely,
Gerald
