Are Individual Vitamin Supplements Better Than A Multivitamin Tablet?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question πŸ’
Hollis AK

I have a multi supplement that has D3, Calcium, B vitamins, C....etc. If I start taking individual supplements would that over do it; the ones I mentioned. I don't want individual supplements across the board because that gets too pricey for me, I know a multi vitamin gives the percentage of each vitamin in the dose, but I don't believe everything I read because we have a chronic illness.
Did any of this make sense?πŸ˜‰

I pray and hoping some spirit is listening; not adhering to one religion . I think every procedure or medication is risky, so sometimes I push my Own limits and decisions. Hey, what's the worse that could happen ? Never mind..😬

I have to take individual supplements since I can not take any calcium. I take Vitamins B12 and D3. The MM causes my calcium level to run high. I have to have Xgeva shots every three months to keep it in the normal range.

Hi Kathryn - Yes, We Can.

I've done so, quite well. Most definitely, I needed MM Meds to kill the cancer, but I've already gone back to Monitoring without MM Meds in under 3-1/2 months.

The Bone Lesion that became an Active Tumor had been found during an annual PET/CT follow-up. It was expected to stay dormant. They felt while I was originally MM Active 2 years ago, there was an infection that got a foot-hold.

Though that Lesion went inadvertently untreated for 4 to 5 months and in doing so, it had free range to create quite a bit of damage, once I started Revlimid & Dex, its hours were numbered. In the future, any new blood-sample clonoSEQ results other than Negative will immediately get a PET/CT to find the buggers and a new batch Revlimd and Dex to sweep them away.

Diet, exercise, & key supplements should be able to keep me in Remission and in the event of Future MM Activity - a month or two of Revlimid and Dex will be a fine one-two-punch to resolve whatever comes my way.

Here's one example - https://www.mymyelomateam.com/users/626d2b517de...

Here's a Quote from the Article:
"In conclusion, our study suggests that lifestyle modification in the form of dietary change may potentially contribute to MM control. We therefore believe that further study of prospective dietary interventions in plasma cell disorders is warranted and have initiated a prospective whole-foods plant based dietary interventional trial in MM precursor disease (NCT04920084, NUTRIVENTION)."

Best Wishes for the Holidays

Hi Greg - From the things I’ve learnt in the past two years, I believe we can be a very effective part of the solution that prevents a Relapse from happening.
