Are Your Teeth Cracking Due To Biophosphonates? How Are You Dealing With This Uncomfortable Situation?

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
New York, NY

I just came back from a dental appointment where there are two cracked teeth - a bicuspid and the right rear molar which is split. Due to taking Zometa, this medication has affected my jaw. In addition to my dentist, I need to confer with my oncologist, an oral surgeon and an endodontist.

Ronald, I hope you don't lose any of your beautiful teeth. I wonder if a bite guard at night would help.? I grind my teeth when I'm stressed.

Hi Paula - I totally agree. See my Post above with details about using Strontium Citrate. Dr Brandy’s been using it for 6 years with his MM Treatment.

I take it nightly.

It’s important to have the D3, K2, Magnesium, Calicium, Vit C that I’ve mentioned at the above Post and include in my @A MyMyelomaTeam Member Story.

Ronald,
I’m not taking bio phosphates because I don’t want osteonecrosis. I have Osteoporosis from a high Corticosteroid. I had a root canal this morning at the Endodontics. I have another tooth I may be losing in front. I had a root canal on it 2 years ago. When I forget to take my Calcium supplement with magnesium, D3 & K2, it hurts. It has made me more diligent in taking the supplements, because I feel the difference right away. MM takes calcium out of the bones. Steroids (like Dex) take calcium out of the bones too. We are double hit!

Ronald my husband has had two teeth pulled in the last year by an oral surgeon. He recently had a root canal because of an infection. Hope everything goes well for you🙏

I had pretty wretched side effects from Zometa -dose one was not pleasant. Got switched to Xgevia. One or the other caused osteonecrosis of jaw about 4 months after Zometa dose. My team discontinued bisphosphenates. Supplementing Calcium Citrate, D3, K2, and Strontium. My teeth are very much intact, but it's a point of worry for me. Otherwise bones are good. Thanking God for that.
