Hi Roderick...the standard of care for Multiple Myeloma is a autologous stem cell transplant using your own stem cells. An allogenic SCT uses someone else's stem cells that are matched to yours. The allogenic SCT has risks of life threatening complications such as GVHD and having to be on immunsupressing drugs. That is why it is rarely used.

Agree with Wendym post. For myeloma, autologous transplants are the standard of care. Alligeneic transplants are often used in other cancers such as leukemias Or lymphomas or myelodysplastic syndrome.
