Retina Changes In The Eye

A MyMyelomaTeam Member asked a question 💭
Boston (Milton), MA

Does anyone know the incidence of retinal tears, holes and detachments w myeloma patients and whether it’s the para protein or lenalidomide that increases one’s risk?

We have asked Dana-Farber oncologist And he really didn’t know nor did the Mass eye ear retina specialist

However, I have found many articles from retina journals and others that describe a relationship between each

I am wondering what experience any of you have had

Salli,
Read @A MyMyelomaTeam Member posts. He is doing well by not taking too many drugs. It hurts the immune system. I had partial post vitreous detachment.

My Post vitreous detachment was caused by high corticosteroids. Dexamethasone is a steroid that is used by MM patients.

Janet,
I have read many articles about how MM affects the eyes. I just don’t think some doctors stay up to date and read.

Hello Barbara. I had a hole in my retina long before i had mm. I also had cataracts in both of my eyes. They have been removed now. I was also diagnosed with glaucoma. I put drops in my eyes. My haematologist & I have just had a dispute about mm causing any type of eye conditions. He says not with mm. I noticed my Iga was low and when I checked it out, it’s for your eyes, nose & ears. I now suffer with red eyes, red in the white of my eyes, and blood vessels bleeding, sore eyes, dry eyes, and what appears to be conjunctivitis. Hope this helps with your question. Also good resource available on this site for eyes.

Why are all these drugs so destructive of your whole body
I'm waiting on my bone marrow biopsy & I don't know if I can handle all these drugs
God I pray for all of us
