If platelets are within range, there shouldn't be an iron deficiency?

I had to Google this because it is such a great question. Here's the answer. 💗

Iron deficiency can also affect the platelet count. Most patients with iron deficiency will have normal or elevated platelet counts, some higher than 1,000 × 109/L at diagnosis [3]; thrombocytopenia in association with iron deficiency is relatively rare.

I have high ferritin but low iron. I now take Zinc & Copper. Zinc to lower the ferritin and copper for iron deficiency. Unsulphered blackstrap molasses doesn’t hurt me either.

I dont think iron deficiency can affect platelets. I could be wrong though.

Greetings from Alaska great response, Donna you took the words out of my mouth. I’ve had low platelets as well as being anemic, but my iron stores were very high. They took me off of iron supplements. My platelet counts continue to be in the normal range and once again I’m anemic, I think that’s normal for myeloma patients. have a great day. God bless all.
