What Is The Main Purpose Of A PET Scan?

I am post SCT 5 years and have relapsed. Oncologist has never suggested a PET scan. Yet I have heard many MM patients have it done.

PET scans can tell the difference in new active bone lesions and old inactive ones. The Healthtree Foundation website has a great learning module on bone disease in myeloma. I found it very helpful 💕

Hi Mother1980, I watched a webinar about MRD negativity. They shouldn't say a person is MRD negative unless they have imaging to back it up.

My oncologist has me have one every year. It is a good barometer as to what is old and if there is anything new and growing.

I’m brand new and scheduled to get my first PET/CT scan 7/4. It’s supposed to identify where the cancer is growing (and how much). Think it’s done periodically to see if it’s under control. I’d definitely ask.
