Where Do I Find My M Protein Levels On My Blood Tests.
@A MyMyelomaTeam Member My M protein shows up on the SPEP that my hem/onc does every 6 months. They are not doing an SPEP on you? I would definitely ask your doctor! I am glad you will be seeing the one you like. Please let us know how it goes! 🌻
To find your M protein levels on your blood tests, look for results from the following tests:
- Serum Protein Electrophoresis (SPEP): This test separates proteins in your blood based on their electrical charges and shows changes in M protein levels
- Immunofixation Electrophoresis: This test identifies the specific type Show Full Answer
How confusing that must be for you. That would drive me crazy. I changed doctors 4 times. I wanted a doctor I could trust and someone who was knowledgeable. I’m glad you are getting the other one.

Hi Pbaldini. I did get a second opinion last year and he was condescending and worse than my first doctor. I am in Canada and there are limited specialists which are hard to get into. I did ask my Hem/ono about her experience in MM and she stated she treats many. I actually have two as they trade off every 6 months to stay home with their children. The one I am seeing this Friday is the one I prefer. I intend to ask her amount the M Protein tests as I do not think it is being done. I will keep you posted. Thanks for your support.
Filomena,
I have had mine tested since I had MGUS. I am now Smoldering with IgA Kappa just like you and I am still being tested for M protein. This is a standard test. If you are not seeing a MM Specialist, it might be time to ask your Oncologist/Hematologist for a referral. They will be happy to have a second opinion. If they are not happy about it, you are going to the wrong doctor. A MM Specialist does not need to be close to you. Some second opinions are done on FaceTime. They will need all your tests first.
