Is The Deletion Of 13q14 Considered A High-risk Genetic Mutation In Multiple Myeloma?
The International Myeloma Working Group does not consider the deletion of chromosome 13 high risk anymore. I have heard in some webinars for genetics that it just liked to hang out with the bad guys or other high risk genes. Healthtree Foundation does not list it as high risk either.
Great! A whole chromosome is gone! Well if I am miraculously healed, at least I had some of the worst cytogenetics, to prove the miracle.

I got my "medical degree" from a Cracker Jack box, so take this with a huge grain of salt. According to the National Human Genome Research Institute, monosomy "refers to the condition in which only one chromosome from a pair is present in cells rather than the two copies usually found in diploid cells". Each chromosome has a duplicate. In monosomy, one chromosome of the pair no longer exists, whereas something like del(13q14) means band 14 on the q arm of the 13 chromosome pair is deleted - not an entire chromosome. But, again, grain of salt.
Kappa,
I have Monosomy 13. I really don’t know what the difference is between the 2.

Bummer.
