FYI.. I just went through Car T at Mayo Rochester. I was told there is no longer a requirement of 4 relapses. They are using after one relapse now.

I added updates to my story regarding my Car T treatment at Mayo as well as my journey through various treatments getting there if you can access for more info. The short version….I was able to have stem cell transplant in 2017. My MM was diagnosed as Lambda Light chain in 2016 at 63 y/o. Five remissions followed by 5 relapses since then and each remission getting shorter. Undergoing Car T was easier than Stem cell transplant but opinions can vary with each individual. There was no sign of any MM at day 30 of Car T transplant. Waiting for blood chemistry to rebound at this time. Praying this one holds up for long term as I was getting sick (literally) of 3X a month infusions. Just wanted a break after 8 years and paying out $3k to $12k a year for specialty drugs depending on Part D coverages.
Hope this info helps. Ask for any ? you have and I’ll try to help.

I'm sorry to hear about your health challenges. Here is some information about CAR-T cell therapy for multiple myeloma:

- Eligibility: CAR-T cell therapy is for those whose myeloma is refractory (resistant to treatment) or relapsed (came back after treatment). You must have tried at least four other treatments, including immunomodulatory drugs (like Revlimid), proteasome inhibitors (like Velcade), and monoclonal antibodies.

- Treatment Process: CAR-T cells are engineered to recognize and kill cancer cells. They target a protein called BCMA on cancerous plasma cells. The approved CAR-T cell treatment for multiple myeloma is called Abecma (idecabtagene vicleucel).

- Hospital Stay: After receiving CAR-T cell infusion, a hospital stay of several weeks is often required to monitor the treatment's effectiveness and manage side effects. Even after discharge, staying close to the treatment center for a month or more may be necessary in case of complications.

- Effectiveness: Studies show that 28% of people achieved complete response with idecabtagene vicleucel, and 65% of those maintained the response for at least 12 months.

Wishing you the best with your upcoming pacemaker procedure and continued strength in your treatment journey.
