When an MRI shows tumors but a full-body CT scan does not, it is important to discuss the findings with your doctor. MRI has extremely high sensitivity for detecting soft tissue abnormalities and bone marrow infiltration, which might explain why it detected tumors that the CT scan did not. Your doctor may recommend further diagnostic tests, such as a bone marrow biopsy, to confirm the presence of myeloma cells and determine the extent of the disease.

This is why I was diagnosed with “stage 1” MM. My MRI showed 3-5 small tumors in every vertebrae from my skull down to my coccyx. My other numbers just put me at high risk smoldering MM. I also have severe osteoporosis in my spine. This is why they do ALL the tests, no single one tells the whole story. Early diagnosis is a good thing.
