What Is The Difference Between The Hematology Dr And The Multiple Myeloma Specialist
When a person becomes a doctor, they are usually board certified in Internal Medicine. If they specialize in something, they have to do another residency in that specialty - for instance - dermatology, orthopedics, or oncology. Most doctors who specialize in Oncology also specialize in Hematology, which is diseases of the blood. So my doctor is Oncology/Hematology. Once they are an oncologist, they can further specialize in many sub-specialties like transplants or even more specifically Multiple Myeloma. That means they do research in Multiple Myeloma most of the time and see only MM patients a few days a week. So the hematology credentials do not mean they are an MM specialist. The specialist I see works on Multiple Myeloma and Amyloidosis. When you search on the internet, you should be able to find specific information about them. Hope this helps.
If you want a doctor who is expert in MM, go to the Specialist. You may not have one near you, but they can work with your local Hematologist/Oncologist.
